In order to get accepted to the University of Michigan, Margaret MacNeil had to first compete in swimming for Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School and the London Aquatic Club, before moving on to the University of Michigan.

She qualified for the 2016 Olympic team by placing sixth in the 100m butterfly event at the World Championships.

Margaret, on the other hand, created history by being the first woman to win the 100m butterfly world championship at the FINA World Championships in 2019.

She broke new Canadian, American, and Commonwealth records with a time of 55.83 seconds, breaking previous ones.

After that, MacNeil competed in the women's 100-meter butterfly, where she took home the gold medal. In the end, she overcame Sarah Sjostrom, the four-time World and reigning Olympic champion, in the finals.

Furthermore, she will be eligible to represent Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, which will take place in June 2021.
