Aaliyah was just 15 years old when she married R. Kelly, who was 12 years older than her. During their marriage in 1994, Aaliyah was presented as an 18-year-old woman, despite the fact that she was only 15 at the time.

The illegal marriage was annulled by Aaliyah's family in 1995, but the two celebrities have always maintained that they were never married.

It was R.Kelly who mentored and produced Aaliyah's debut album "Age Ain't Nothing But a Number," which was written and produced by her.

Because they were always together during the recording sessions, their bond had grown stronger.

Sadly, Aaliyah died tragically in an aeroplane crash in August 2001, just after returning from the filming of her music video for "Rock The Boat."

She died in the incident, along with the other eight people on board who were members of her shooting team. The crew had been rushing back to the United States from their vacation in the Bahamas when the plane went down in a forest of flames.

According to accounts, the aircraft carried significantly more weight than was necessary, and the aircraft's pilot had gotten his pilot licence in a fraudulent manner.

Furthermore, the pilot, identified as Morales, was found to be inebriated after undergoing cocaine and alcohol toxicological testing.

It is estimated that approximately 800 mourners attended Aaliyah's private funeral Mass, which was held on August 31, 2001, at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in New York City.
