In 1988, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Trinity College in New York, where she had previously attended the School of the Holy Church on Long Island in New York state.

Christine first became involved in politics in 1991, when she was hired to handle Thomas Duane's campaign for City Council. Duane's chief of staff for five years, she went on to become executive director of the New York City anti-violence project, and she is now a professor at Columbia University. Similarly, she was appointed to the New York City Police Department's Task Force on Police-Community Relations.
