Tara Rushton was born in Perth, however she grew up in Victoria and Sydney before settling in Perth. Originally from Australia, she was born to a half-Anglo-Celtic father and a half-Burmese mother.

Tara attended Oakhill College and then Macleay College, where she earned a Diploma in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in English. She studied in Media and Communications and then relocated to London at the age of 18 after completing her studies.

Following the start of her media career in 2010, she received a nomination for an ASTRA award in 2015 for Most Outstanding Female Presenter.

Tara began dating former National Rugby League player Cooper Cronk in January 2016, after meeting via mutual friends. On December 14, 2017, the pair exchanged their wedding vows in front of family and friends.
