John Madden, an American football coach, passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 85. The NFL shared the heartbreaking news.

From 1969 until 1978, he was the Raiders’ head coach.

When the 1976 regular season ended with a 13-1 record, he won Super Bowl XI.

He has the highest winning rate among NFL coaches, with over 100 games under his belt.

However, after retiring from coaching at the age of 42, he is perhaps best known for his work as a commentator.

He was known for his humble demeanor and used to travel to games on his bus due to claustrophobia. He developed a fear of flying as well.

From 1979 through 2009, Madden won 16 Emmy Awards and broadcast 11 Super Bowls. In 2006, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He was born on April 10th, 1936, in Austin, Minnesota, and grew up there. His family will eventually have to relocate to Daly City, California.

After that, John attended Catholic Parochial School until 1950, when he transferred to Jefferson High School, where he received his diploma in 1964.

They got hitched on December 26, 1959. They have two kids, Joseph and Michael.
