Munir Ali, his father, was a cab driver and a psychiatric nurse. Moeen was moved to Dadyal, near Mirpur in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan, as a newborn and didn’t return to the UK until he was 11 years old.

Munir shared an attic room in Birmingham with three other people since his family was severely poor.

He arrived at school without knowing any English. His parents divorced soon after, and he didn’t see them for another 15 years. An uncle was responsible for him.
