Alice Chen grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended San Francisco State University. Chen received his undergraduate degree in biology from Yale University, which is headquartered in New Haven.

Later on, she transferred to Cornell University's Well Corner Medical College, where she finished her degree in medicine.

When it comes to her professional life, Chen signed an open letter from Doctors for Obama, which calls for a restructuring of the healthcare system in the United States of America. Doctors for America was the name given to the organisation once it was rebranded.

Alice joined Doctors for America as an executive in 2011, and she remained in the post for six years after that.
